Career Plan

The Academy is committed to raising the aspirations of all our students by providing a wide range of opportunities to all Year groups.

Exploring numerous career options and the diverse pathways and routes into further education, and subsequent employment, can be some of the complex demands

that young people are faced with when making themselves career ready.

All staff share responsibility for preparing children for future careers. We aim to ensure that our students are career ready by receiving relevant and essential information relating to career opportunities, skilled, resilient and confident. We aim to widen students' horizons by presenting opportunities, increasing motivation and raising aspirations.

The Statutory Guidance: Careers guidance and access for education, and training providers (DfE:2018) sets out a long-term plan to help young people choose a career that is right for them by building a world class careers system.

Within secondary education all young people receive advice and guidance which is delivered by skilled, knowledgeable and experienced independent careers advisors. At Cleethorpes Academy we are committed to providing all students in Years 7-11, in partnership with The Career and Enterprise Company, local employers, further and higher education providers the academy aims to provide careers programme that is stable, structured and tailored to suit the needs of the students by providing relevant information.

Aims:

• To support inclusion, challenge stereotypes and promote equality of opportunity.
• To meet the needs of all our students through appropriate differentiation.
• We will provide opportunities for students to engage with and participate in Further Education inset days.
• To provide an environment which fosters students to achieve economic wellbeing by motivating and inspiring students to achieve their potential and focus on their aspirations.
• To encourage participation in continued learning including further and higher education.
• To involve parents and carers.
• We will inspire students in planning their own career path by providing them with information, opportunities and experiences.
• We will inspire and encourage students to achieve their maximum potential and aspirations, both academically and personally, in order to support their future.

Experiences and Opportunities:

Students attend visits which are appropriate for their age in relation to careers. All year 10 students visit the NE Lincolnshire Skills Fair in July every year. Year 10 students have an opportunity to attend a taster day at Tollbar 6th Form College and Franklin College. In addition to this they also attend taster days at the Grimsby Institute and Franklin College which provides students with the opportunity to explore certain courses and pathways offered within Further Education.

As an academy we are committed to raising students understanding of apprenticeships. During apprenticeship week the academy has a varied calendar of events in every year group. This included local provider assemblies, lessons in curriculum areas and lunchtime drop ins.

Local companies and employees from various businesses and local education providers visit the academy in a variety of was throughout the year to deliver sessions and informative presentations on their respective areas to students, both on a large scale and also in a more informal drop in session at lunchtimes or visiting individual classes.

HOP - Hull University Outreach Program

The academy works closely with Hull University to offer a wide range of activities to our students to raise aspiration and provide guidance for future choices.

Year 9 - Options choices and future pathways

Year 10 - One on One advice session and interview techniques.

Year 11 - Study skills sessions and how to effectively study.

Some examples of the opportunities available to our students:

• All years - All years attend our Careers Fair each year.
• All years have a range of targeted events during the Year such as NHS Nextgen, Rise, M&G Challenge and KPMG competition.
• Years 9, 10 and 11 - HOP funded drop-down days to build employability skills, students’ resilience, problem solving skills and stress management.

• All years - have individualised and independent careers advice from the Academy's own in-house cares and guidance assistant and have an online careers interview with an independent Careers Advisor.

Parents and Carers:

• Parental involvement is key and is highly encouraged. We endeavour to keep parents/careers up to date on upcoming events and careers work through letters, access to Further and Higher Education prospectuses, open evenings and GCSE option evening.

Assessing Impact:

• As an academy we plan to assess the impact of our Careers and Personal Development programme using a combination of methods.
• The Academy uses Compass - the careers benchmark tool as outlined in the Gatsby Benchmarks to assess and improve our current CEIAG provision. This will be used at regular intervals, to measure our progress against the Benchmarks.
• Secondly, we will evaluate the impact of our CEIAG provision by asking for direct feedback from the students, with regular surveys on the information and guidance available to them, both in their Careers and Personal Development lessons, and the intent and implementation across the curriculum.
• In curriculum areas students have a variety of opportunities to develop their understanding of careers such as apprenticeship week, careers week and targeted visitors from employers or education providers.
• We will use Startprofile.com and compass+, websites offering bespoke, individualised and specific CEIAG to the students. This tool also allows the Careers Lead, the CPD department, Curriculum Leaders and subject staff, to log, track and analyse information and guidance given to the students across the curriculum, and assess the impact of all meaningful encounters with employers, Further Education, and Higher Education providers.
• The evidence and the impact of the programme will be reviewed regularly, with final reviews being conducted in the June/July period, to address any issues or adjustments, ready for the next academic year.
